General Information

Detects presence of IgE antibodies to rice allergen in serum. An allergen is a type of antigen that initiates an immune response. After this initiation, also called sensitization, an allergic individual will produce IgE against that allergen. Specific IgE can be used to determine allergen sensitization, potential anaphylaxis response, and aid in disease management. Assay results should be used in conjunction with clinical findings and other serological tests.

Specimen Collection / Processing Instructions

Preferred: Allow serum tubes to clot for a minimum of 30 minutes before centrifuging. Centrifuge within 1 hour of collection and no longer than 2 hours after collection.

Alternate: if centrifuging is not possible, uncentrifuged serum samples (SST, Red Top) are acceptable.

Caution: Add-on testing may not be possible on serum samples that are received uncentrifuged. Serum/plasma samples are not to be repeatedly frozen and thawed, since this can cause analyte deterioration. They are to be thawed only once.

Minimum Sample Volume

500uL of serum; for multiple allergens: 0.1 ml x number of allergens + 0.400 ml dead space

Stability

Stored at 2-8˚C: 7 Days Specimens may be kept at controlled room temperature for shipping purposes only. Otherwise, they should be stored at 2-8˚C if assayed within 7 days or -20˚C for longer-term storage.
