The Standards are Changing. Are you Ready for ICD-10?
Most people know that the ICD-10 compliance date is October 1, 2014, but did you realize this might mean potential updated software installation, staff training, changes to business operations and workflows, internal and external testing, reprinting of manuals and other materials, and more? All of this will take time.
Incyte Diagnostics has successfully made the conversion to HCFA 5010 we are now looking ahead toward ICD-10. The implementation date set by Medicare is October 1, 2014, which seems like a long way off in the future, but it will be here before we know it and we need to prepare. The number of diagnosis codes will be going from approximately 13,600 to 69,000. Our coding staff has begun the training process and is preparing to take their recertification tests with the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC). One ICD-10 resource that is available to us is the AAPC website. Everything from historical information to a conversion lookup is also available.
Under the ICD-10 Resources you will find an ICD-10 translator. We have posted the ICD-10 code online translator tool below, which allows you to compare ICD-9 to ICD-10 codes. (Note: this tool only converts ICD-10-CM codes, not ICD-10-PCS.)
